Hey everyone, I’m back with more designer-ey stuff I found on the internet! This time, it’s a neat table that assembles in minutes and uses no glue, screws or any other hardware to stay together. I’ve seen furniture like this before, and they’re usually made from dovetailing pieces of hardwood like you see in the video. But good wood doesn’t come cheap (I feel like there’s an innuendo in there somewhere). We won’t know for sure until the table goes on sale, but you can check out the designer’s site here.
I took a furniture design course in college and it’s pretty tempting to cheap out on materials. I made a drawing table for the class, but ended up buying cheaper plywood instead of hardwood AND put it all together with bolts. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about design, it’s that you have to pay good money for quality materials AND quality craftsmanship. Unless you’re a broke college student. Then things kinda suck.

This is a neat little water bottle design that sports a built-in carbon filter. I don’t know the full story behind the bottle beyond the fact that Design Milk posted it on their site, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a design like this before.
After a bit of internet scrubbing I found the design I remember seeing. This is ‘Drop’, a water bottle designed by Nick Poteraki which won the James Dyson Award back in 2006. Now, I don’t know whether he was also awarded a patent for this idea, but clearly it isn’t working.
Intellectual property aside, I think the 321 Water bottle looks cooler.
This Sugru stuff looks amazing! I can think of hundreds of things I could to with it (and all the school design projects that would have gone much smoother). I think products like this are something we’re going to be seeing more of in the future. It lets people everywhere not only be consumers of products but also makers and modifiers.
They’re currently sold out, but there’s a sign-up list if you want to know when they have more of the stuff in stock.

This is MY kind of perspective drawing.
win. that is all.
Update: Power up!

Old Fashioned Post-It Battle of the Day: Redditor lukeco says: “I made this out of post-it notes on my dorm window, here is my neighbor’s rebuttal.”
A fireball retort is forthcoming.

True story: today I was making a design for a customer and they wanted some initials in a “normal block font”. I showed them about a half-dozen different fonts like Century Gothic and Helvetica, intentionally leaving out Arial.
customer: I just like normal Arial Black.
me: *groan*
Maybe if they had looked at this chart, I wouldn’t have had to get my hopes up. see the full sized image here.
![Oh Woz, you’re awesome.
